i watched 'saw III' just before writing this, but this will come out later. my theory is that kramer was actually a himedanshi who was trying to get amanda and lynn together. he failed ... </3
this was even more gory and melodramatic than the last, and it definitely wasn't as good, but i still enjoyed it. while the freezer, pig guts vat, and twister traps were really creative and unexpected, jeff's parts were a bit slow, and i preferred the parts with kramer and co more. the gore here is also really good (the twister scene was a personal standout, really wanna see the BTS for that) but i had to look away for the entirety of kramer's operation because i hate 'precise' gore, if that makes sense... anything that's too deliberate and medical.
amanda's character was so good and entertaining that i forgive her for killing adam, actually. she literally did nothing wrong. joking, but her character, the fact that her traps were unbeatable, and her relationships with kramer and lynn were really interesting and well written in my opinion. also her outfits were cool.
all in all, this movie suffers from its pacing being just a biiit too slow. i'm really wondering who will become jigsaw now that kramer and amanda are dead, and how the traps will evolve based on that. also, personally i find it interesting how amanda's traps kind of resembled the reverse bear trap in a way, all involving large devices attached directly to the body in some way (the ribcage trap, lynn's collar). maybe it wasn't intentional but i thought it was nice. this is a 3/5 for me, and at the time of writing, i'm planning on watching IV tomorrow (^▽^) i hope gordon makes a comeback, they keep referencing him.

Ok so I just started watching the Saw movies, and I'm confused about something
I read at some point that the movies were thought to stop after the third one, but because it made money they eventually decided to make more
BUT
If Saw III was supposed to be the end, then how is it that they planned things for a sequel in it?? (SPOILER SAW III : I'm talking about the flashbacks with Jill and the tape in wax; those absolutely don't make sense without a sequel)
I'm really confused but super curious as to why they planned these things for a possible sequel if their initial goal was to make it the last one (my guess is that they still wanted something to work with in case the studio wanted a 4th one?)
Note that I just watched movies 1 to 4, so no spoilers please 🙏

YEAH! it obvs doesn’t follow the parable because the man in the saw furnace very much doesn’t survive (also this story is interesting from a jewish vs christian perspective bc its told in both but the fourth figure vibes are different bc christians say it was jesus or a form of him instead of an angel)
but there’s lots of biblical references in this movie but especially old testament!
john himself is playing god by building traps, i always have read it as a way to feel like he has power bc due to his heath situation he is very powerless. he believes he’s helping his victims by having them confront their sins, he thinks he is bringing them salvation (but at what cost? amanda suffers immensely from mental trauma after her first saw experience, and while she’s clean from drugs, she moves onto other self destructive coping mechanisms)
saw 3 talks a lot about like forgiveness in the way that jeff has to essentially forgive the people he blames for his son’s death by helping them which is also very biblical but also just the general themes of obedience vs disobedience is very old testament + themes of disaster brought on by god (or john kramer lol)
Watched saw 2 and 3 today and I don't really have the capacity to articulate my thoughts properly but I'm thinking about John Kramer and his savior complex and how it ties into christianity/religion bc 3 especially had a lot of christian imagery/references (johns emphasis on Jeff's forgiveness, Timothy's trap literally being a crucifixion, etc.) and @femmeofarc pointed out that one of the traps (I don't remember which) reminded them of a parable and just,,, idk rotating the idea in my mind

What would Amanda Young as an older sister be like?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

CHARACTER(S): Amanda Young (SAW/“Jigsaw” Franchise)
Tumblr media
🪡 .*.. 💉
Amanda as an older sister is something you never asked for, but appreciate everyday.
-> it’s her terrified eyes that glance back at yours— at your sudden discovery of her slicing into her arms and thighs, your own pain reflecting hers.
-> it’s the sound of her sleep-ridden screams that wake you, nightmares so familiar to her, yet never easier to shake.
-> it’s the discovery of needles, filled to the brim under the kitchen sink’s cabinet that bring tears to your concerned eyes.
-> it’s the soothing texture of her hair through your fingers as she lets you play with it, giggles passed between the two of you from gossip about some new kid in your school.
-> it’s the old band tees and over-worn lacy bras that make you laugh at old photo albums of your childhood together.
-> it’s her laugh that’s so contagious, yet so terrifyingly unfamiliar.
-> it’s the smiles she passes you in the middle of an argument with someone on the phone, reassuring you that she’s just fed up with her ‘boss’ where she works.
-> it’s the way her facial expression contorts into a motherly amount of relief when she comes home late at night, finding you passed out on the shared, worn-in couch, TV static from a finished VHS tape illuminating your features in a way that shows you’re at peace. that you’re safe.
-> it’s the discomfort on her face as you question the markings on her inner forearms; immediately ignored, and told ‘(not) to worry about it, pumpkin”.
-> it’s the realization that this domesticated life she’s formed with you will end at some point.
-> it’s the pain-relieving pills that take up half of your side of the shared bathroom’s sink, scattered about miscellaneously the morning after a night out of partying together.
-> it’s the way she’s dreading telling you she’s not what you think she is- that she’s a monster; that she kills people.
-> it’s the comfort in John Kramer’s words that churns her stomach; aching for a father figure she never had, the very father fighre you’ll never get to experience— eating away guiltily at her conscious.
-> it’s the “imposter syndrome” she’s formed over the years that slowly tears the both of you apart— you’re too pure, to perfect to know of the bloodshed she’s caused.
-> it’s the tears shed into her dingy mattress that wakens you from your sleep, pulling you to her room and sitting with her, immediately diving into an embrace so tight you can feel the way her heart rapidly ‘thumps’ against her skinny frame.
-> it’s the way the words ‘i’m so sorry i’m the way i am’ passes her thin and chapped lips so unfamiliarly, you’re almost frightened by the sheer force of emotion in her tone.
-> it’s the way she knows you don’t understand what she means, but stay near her anyways, her fingers delved so far into your skin you’re sure it’s bound to rip.
